In late August of 1998, I was asked if I was interested in assisting with the Broodwar beta, and I was also asked if I would like to become their second MVP on their forums (TheHelper was the first MVP, dinobot the third MVP). During the beta Blizzard realized from my account name that I was t'kron from their forums.

I was one of the top 10 beta testers and was awarded a free copy of the game after the beta. I applied like hundreds of Thousands of others to be in the SC beta and was randomly selected (At this time Blizzard did not know that my entry into the betta lottery was from the poster named t'kron that posted on their Diablo support forum).ĭuring the beta, I reported about 50 bugs, and actually helped them solve several of the bugs (at the time of the SC beta, I had been in programing for over 25 years). Also once the beta was over the beta test version would no longer work. All betas were battle net only, no single player, no Modem to modem, and no Lan testing (TCP/IP or IXP). Keep an Eye open on Blizzards Web pages for an annoucement as to if there will be an open Beta, and if so when the signup will occur.Īlso note that the beta testers never got the complete version of the game to test. I have been in every beta since and including Starcraft. It has every picture you might want from the look of the CD, the letter that comes with it, 's appearance and more.Magickian is correct about how Beta testers are selected. Note : If you want to see pictures of Warcraft III beta, I recommend this site. I will post them of my site tommorow to show them. I wish I could of posted some pictures I took of this little story but that feature seems removed from the forums.

But Shlonglor stepped in and simply banned me and all other non-Warcraft III clients out of the channel. I was going to hang around longer to enjoy the moment since Blizzard will most likely ban all clients other than Warcraft III Beta from that channel. They must think they are too good to respond to a regular Starcraft / Diablo II player since they ignored about 50% of my questions. I chatted for a while, asking questions such as " Did they really put that ally-lock feature ? That would put a stop to my backstabbing glory." Of course, the fact that they own the beta got up to their heads. With Diablo II, it would just detect it as "Unknown Client" with a cloaked character. The first thing I noticed upon joining is that the proper War III icons were appearing. At that point, I decided to log in with Starcraft.

I remembered seeing a message on the forums about a bug that when people with other clients than Warcraft III beta logged into the channel, anyone in the channel might have their client or whole computer jammed. I chatted for a while and noticed some Warcraft III testers were just logging off. I just logged in that time to see the beta testers. I don't even play on USWest for starters. The joke's on you Shlonglor, that's just my joke name. He also told me " I would not hang about with that name, you might be banned.". The second I entered, Shlonglor said " F : D, can you detect yourself ?". I was just visiting the "Warcraft III USA-1" channel on USWest to meet the beta testers.
